Economic Inclusion Senior Specialist, Gilbane Building Company

Harold Clay is the Economic Inclusion Senior Specialist for Gilbane Building Company’s Michigan Division. He leads the implementation of business and/or workforce inclusion programs and activities to maximize the involvement of targeted business and workforce on key construction programs. His role supports a portfolio of construction projects/programs in the execution of economic inclusion plans. develops and fosters relationships with external stakeholders (organizations, clients, and small and diverse businesses). Meets periodically with external stakeholders to understand their requirements and needs and determine how we can work together. Harold also participates in community events and organizational activities that promote economic inclusion and provide networking opportunities.

Harold has been successfully involved in over 200 construction projects, including: Eastern Michigan University, Huntington Bank TCF Rebranding, University of Michigan Stephen M. Ross School of Business, Michigan State University, Wayne State University, Ann Arbor Public Schools, Orleans Landing, Goodwill Welcome Center, Neighborhood Service Organization Coleman A Young Municipal Center and numerous more.  His experience with contract specifications, extensive knowledge and lessons learned are valuable in overseeing project management, procurement, submittals, and subcontractor relationships, design, construction, and closeout. Harold’s experience has proven invaluable helping to ensure timely and quality execution of commercial and residential construction projects.

Due to his extensive residential and commercial construction experience, Harold is the go-to person with his family and friends for any construction, home renovation/repair, and/or real estate acquisition matters. He has a strong philosophy about teaching and growing which has benefitted many young men interested in the construction industry whose lives he has touched.  Harold believes in paying it forward and currently serves as a mentor working with youth in the Winning Futures Program.

In addition to earning a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Eastern Michigan University, Harold is a graduate of the SBA Emerging Leaders Program. He is a lifetime member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. In his leisure time, he enjoys golf and recently began karate lessons which has been a long-term goal. Harold also loves traveling with Sheilah Clay, his wife of 32 years, who also has experience in housing development.
